With a shared passion for hospitality and deep Hawaiian roots, David and Kristie bring warmth, expertise, and aloha spirit to every event at Hoku Events on Madison.

Their combined 70+ years of experience in events and catering — along with their love for Portland's community — drives their mission to create unforgettable gatherings in a space that blends Art Deco elegance with the heart of Hawaii.

Our Roots

Have you had the pleasure of eating at Bamboo Grove Hawaiian Grille in Portland off South Macadam on South Carolina? Then you have had a taste of our Hawaiian roots. Mahalo for dining with us!

We are honored to open Hoku Events on Madison in Portland's evolving east side. Our mission is to share Hawaiian aloha, culture and history through our event space. As a homage to its history as the Tony Starlight Showroom and Madison Hall, we chose to include the Hawaiian word for star, HOKU, and the location, Madison, in our name.

The building, built in 1936 echoes its Art Deco era. In Spring 2024 we began updating our event space to reflect the timeless allure of this era while incorporating the tropical essence of Hawaii. Bringing a unique, versatile space that can be transformed into the perfect setting for your next event.

The Space

Hoku Events on Madison is pleased to announce we are now open and ready to book your next event. Our 2400 square foot venue features a full kitchen, stocked bar, and stage with AV setup for live music and DJs. With the capacity to accommodate up to 120 people for standing room events or 100 for a sit-down gathering, we are the perfect space for your next memorable event.

With over 70 years of combined experience in events and catering, our team is well-equipped to help make your next event unforgettable.
