Kawika's Story
Born and raised on the beautiful island of Maui, Kawika grew up surrounded by the rich culinary traditions of Hawaii. From family luaus on the beach to his grandmother's kitchen where the aroma of slow-cooked kalua pork filled the air, food has always been at the heart of his life.
When Kawika moved to Portland, he brought more than just recipes — he brought the Aloha spirit. The warmth, generosity, and love that defines Hawaiian culture is woven into every dish served at Bamboo Grove Hawaiian Grille.
Since opening Bamboo Grove, Kawika has been on a mission to share authentic Hawaiian flavors with the Portland community. Every plate lunch, every poke bowl, every musubi is made with the same care and tradition he learned growing up in the islands.

Maui Kokua
When the devastating wildfires hit Maui in 2023, our ohana felt the pain deeply. Kawika and the Bamboo Grove team have been actively supporting relief efforts, fundraising, and sending aid to help rebuild the community that shaped who we are.
Kokua means help, cooperation, and assistance in Hawaiian. It's a core value we live by every day — taking care of each other, whether it's across the table or across the ocean.
